The Town of Davidson is a quaint little college town and so much more. Davidson is located along I-77 and Lake Norman, just about 20 miles north of uptown Charlotte. The town has a population of about 13,000. Davidson is a very pedestrian and bike rider friendly town. No drive thrus are allowed in the town. The main streets all have nice wide sidewalks.
Davidson College was founded in 1839 by the Presbyterian church. Initially the college was the town government. The town incorporated in 1879 as Davidson College and changed it’s name to Davidson in 1891. For more information on the history of Davidson, please click here. Davidson College is now ranked among America’s strongest and most selective liberal arts colleges. It is the first liberal arts college to eliminate loans in financial aid packages. The campus is 665 acres plus a 110 acre lake campus. It hosts 1,850 students with a 50/50 male to female ratio.

Dining and Shopping
Davidson is home to some great mom and pop shops and restaurants. Notable are Lake Norman Cottage, Brickhouse Tavern, Toast, Davidson Chocolate Co., and Flat Iron. You will also find a few smaller versions of some national stores too such as Ben & Jerry’s and GNC.
There are tons of things for families to enjoy, are few are listed here. Christmas time is a very special time in Davidson with Trolley rides, crafts, a live nativity and Santa’s house. You can enjoy free concerts on the green all spring and summer and in April there is a large arts celebration. Davidson also has a hometown movie theater that is unlike most any other. It’s called Our Town Cinemas here you can have your meal and your movie!
Parks and Recreation
There are an astounding 19 parks and greenways located in Davidson. Davidson is only a 5 square mile town so that’s a lot of parks and greenways to enjoy! Dog lovers will delight with the dog park and all the walking trails.
