We have it all here in Mooresville! This is our family’s home and we love it here! Terry Bradshaw does a great job of telling all about Mooresville in this video:
Mooresville, NC is such a neat and diverse area and it is a great town to raise a family in.
History
Mooresville was formally established in 1873. Before that it was known as Moore’s Siding. A farmer named John Franklin Moore had some land that the railroad company came through and laid tracks on it in 1856. He built a depot and encouraged others to help establish a small village. It was named Moore’s Siding which then became Mooresville.
Mooresville became a mill town and the largest mill was the cotton mill. Many people from all over came here for the chance at a better life because of the mills. The mill village is a collection of great mill homes that are still around and lived in today. For over a century Mooresville was a mill town, but the mills eventually moved or went out of business but the mill owners did leave one very nice gift to the town – the golf course! The Mooresville Golf Course is municipally owned and open to the public. The front nine holes were designed by Donald Ross in 1949 and the back nine were designed by Porter Gibson in 1977. This is a great course and many people enjoy it regularly. There are several nice neighborhoods along the golf course, notably Muirfield. Muirfield is a very nice community along the Mooresville golf course. It offers golf course neighborhood living at a more affordable price than most of your country club style neighborhoods. Call me to find out more about Muirfield or golf course homes.
Race City USA
Mooresville is also known as “Race City USA”. Over 60 race teams and over 100 race-related suppliers call Mooresville home. In fact, 2 of the very few wind tunnels in the entire country are located right here in Mooresville. Most of the race shops provide viewing areas and showrooms for fans and tourists. Mooresville is also home to NASCAR Technical Institute training tomorrow’s racing professionals.
Mooresville is also home to Lowe’s corporate center which offers a great deal of employment opportunity to area residents and draws in residents from other areas as well.
Lake Norman
Of course, one huge attraction to living in Mooresville is the lake. Lake Norman was built in 1963 for power production by Duke Power Company. It is named for Atwater Cocke, retired President of Duke Power. It is the largest manmade lake in North Carolina and is in fact larger than the Sea of Gaililee. It offers 520 miles of shoreline and is 33.6 miles in length, making for a great boating lake! There are 10 public access areas, 16 public marinas and 6 private marinas. The lake supports three power generating plants: Marshall Steam Station, McGuire Nuclear Station and Cowans Ford Dam. Lake Norman spans through four counties: Iredell, Mecklenburg, Catawba and Lincoln. Many people like to live on Lake Norman. Back in the 1970’s it was more of a 2nd home area with many small dwellings that people came to on the weekends. As Charlotte grew and expanded outward more and more people began living on Lake Norman and making their home here. As more and more luxury style homes are being built on Lake Norman, the weekend cottages are going away, being torn down and replaced with luxury homes. Call me to find out more about buying a home on Lake Norman.

Schools
In Mooresville we have two school systems that service our area. MGSD and ISS.
MGSD (Mooresville Graded School District) has been nationally recognized for it’s digital conversion where every child in the fourth through twelfth grade is issued a computer to use at school and at home. In 2013 the President of the United States paid MGSD a visit in recognition of it’s achievements. MGSD is a consistent contender for the number one school system in our state as well. You can learn more about MGSD here.
Outside of the city limits, we have the ISS (Iredell Statesville Schools) system. ISS services the part of Mooresville that is on the lake side of I-77 and also services the rest of Iredell County. The Mooresville schools in the ISS system also typically have great ratings.
We recommend that you go to www.ncreportcards.org to see the school ratings.
